With the wind last night I thought we might get blown by. So I was rather happy to find it on the ground this morning. :) Kids were sad it was not enough to cancel school but I'm just glad to have some. Have to try and get some photos with the kiddos out in it. :)

Wow! What a wind storm last night. It actually woke me up around 2am whipping around the house and makin the windows rattle. I had a devil of a time going back to sleep. The skies are grey and I'm wondering if we might just get some snow for Christmas after all. :) I'm hoping it lets up my SIL and family are suppose to do some Christmas caroling tonight. Havent done that in ages.

Although many believe the Friday after Thanksgiving is the busiest shopping day of the year, it is not. It is the fifth to tenth busiest day. The Friday and Saturday before Christmas are the two busiest shopping days of the year.

Christmas trees are known to have been popular in Germany as far back as the sixteenth century. In England, they became popular after Queen Victoria's husband Albert, who came from Germany, made a tree part of the celebrations at Windsor Castle. In the United States, the earliest known mention of a Christmas tree is in the diary of a German who settled in Pennsylvania.

During the ancient 12-day Christmas celebration, the log burned was called the "Yule log." Sometimes a piece of the Yule log would be kept to kindle the fire the following winter, to ensure that the good luck carried on from year to year. The Yule log custom was handed down from the Druids.

Hallmark introduced its first Christmas cards in 1915, five years after the founding of the company.

In 1647, the English parliament passed a law that made Christmas illegal. Festivities were banned by Puritan leader, Oliver Cromwell, who considered feasting and revelry, on what was supposed to be a holy day, to be immoral. The ban was lifted only when the Puritans lost power in 1660.

Long before it was used as a "kiss encourager" during the Christmas season, mistletoe had long been considered to have magic powers by Celtic and Teutonic peoples. It was said to have the ability to heal wounds and increase fertility. Celts hung mistletoe in their homes in order to bring themselves good luck and ward off evil spirits.

The actual gift givers are different in various countries:
England: Father Christmas
France: Pere Noel (Father Christmas)
Germany: Christkind (angelic messenger from Jesus) She is a beautiful fair haired girl with a shining crown of candles.
Holland: St Nicholas.
Italy: La Befana (a kindly old witch)
Spain and South America: The Three Kings
Russia: In some parts—Babouschka (a grandmotherly figure) in other parts it is Grandfather Frost.
Scandinavia: a variety of Christmas gnomes. One is called Julenisse.

Thanksgiving Day

I was feeling well enough to help out with dinner. (whats with this underlining? I can't get rid of it! Ahhhhhhh!!!) Anyway Douglas did the turkey ,Vanessa did pies and Kristina and Deven peeled potatoes for me. Vanessa was very pleased with herself. hehehe They all did a great job! Thanks guys!! Vanessa wanted to make sure we had lots of photos so she was incharge of that. Deven doesn't like to have his photo taken so she made sure to get a few of him. :

Wow, it is amazing how time can fly. It wasn't that long ago when I was askin myself "Is she going to make it to two?" lol We had a pretty good day today. No school

so she just bummed around the house. Tried to talk her into going to

the parade or park but no she wanted to stay home. So I ran around and while I was out I call her at home and sing Happy Birthday to her.....

Well these are not very good, but all I got. These were snapped at breakfast. Horrible I know. I didn't even get the older two. It was a crazy day. Kristina is a funky witch, Breanna is Minnie Mouse, and Aleah is Tinker Bell. Deven was a soldier and Vanessa was a dead bride at school and a vampire at night. They brought home plenty of candy and had a good time.

it was my birthday. I didn't want to post on my birthday to give that away. hehe But I wanted to thank all those who sent me a card. So nice to be remembered. Thanks!!! Aspen sent me a beautiful card that she hand stitched. I'll post a photo later. Douglas took me out to dinner, a movie (what else is there to do around here) and shopping. Really enjoyed time with just him. He gave me permission to buy those Copics I've been drooling over. They are arriving on Tuesday and I am antsy with anticipation. Okay I didn't get them all but I have now started my collection. :)

1) I was born @ the Safford Inn. It was posing as the hospital since the hospital was condemned and they were building a new one.

2) I broke my collar bone when I was 5 falling off stage.

3) I am NOT crazy about chocolate.

4) I didn't get my drivers license until I was 20.

5) I cloth diapered my third child until she was about 8 months. (I think it was that long. lol)

Breanna flyin high!

Isn't this old army jeep fun!

Camping turned out to be fun. Though it did have its ups and downs. We left here about 2pm and got up to Luna at about 8:30pm. Needless to say we had to set up our tents in the dark and then find wood so we could fix our dinner. I ended up just fixing everyone a sandwich and going to bed at about 1:30am because Aleah was just wired. Saturday was a lot of fun! We started out the morning with pancakes, bacon, hash-browns and hot-cocoa at the main camp. Breakfast was done by the host family (Sorry, I don't know who that was.) It was great! We met again for a potluck chili cookoff. I won with my red chili! Totally took me by surprise. Douglas won for his green chili about 8 years back. He was busy and sick so I thought I would just make some so we had something to share. I won a mini mag light. I'll have to get out my alcohol inks and pretty it up. :)

The kids had a blast playing in the creek, meeting family they didn't know, ridding 4wheelers, performing in the talent show, bidding at the family auction, ridding the zip line, catching crawdads, gettin as dirty as possible, roasting marshmallows, launching bottle rockets, and playing on the tire swing.

Saturday night it rained to beat all. We ended up almost floating inside our tent. Thankfully Breanna and Aleah who shared our tent stayed dry. Doug got the worst of it and by morning he had had his fill. He packed us up despite the sad faces and complaining from the kids. This time we left at 1:40pm and got home about 8pm with a hour stop in Wilcox for dinner. Notice a time difference there? Had a bit of a detour the first time. hehe

We I didn't get many photos. Douglas played photographer and I havn't got any from him. But here are a few with Breanna on the tire swing.

So we are off to my hubby's family reunion tomorrow. Hope you all have a wonderful weekend. It has been a long time since I camped. I do feel some trepidation about this whole thing. :) The kids are so excited. Vanessa and Deven have been before but the last time Nina went she was 18 months or so. She doesn't remember ever going but is still very excited. Trying to come up with dinners and meals for cooking out in the boonies. I'm stressing more than I should. :) I found some fun dinner and breakfast ideas at a site called chuckwagondiner. So, we'll see how they go over. I should come back with some fun photos. Well cross your fingers for me.

Kristina was baptized this June when my brother Garrett and his family came to visit. My dad baptized her and Uncle Garrett confirmed her a member of the church. It was a great time. Glad Garrett was able to come and visit this summer. Well we tried for a family photo and a nice photo of Nina afterwards but everyone was tired. :) Breanna fell asleep during it even.

I know, I know... Where have I been?

Well it was summer and the kids kept me busy and family visited and and umm.. Well, I'll have to post some photos of our summer goings on.

My most recent excuse is I'm working out 6 days a week and I am soooo tired. hehehe :) I have lost 3 lbs in the last week and a half so it's working. Yeah! Douglas and I are trying to follow the Body for Life program. You are suppose to take your before photo (which I reluctantly did) but I will not subject you to that, Scary! :) I am not brave enough to post anyway. But you are allowed to check up on me.

The Kids are all back in school now. Breanna has now entered that crazy and fun world of Kindergarden, Kristina is in third, Deven 7th, and Vanessa is now in high school? Can that be? I don't feel old enough to have a high schooler! She already has a guy calling her at least once a day. They want to go to the mall and hang out together with friends. Ahhh!! Aleah is feeling so left out. She is keepin me busy! I now have no down time. :( Well better get back to bed. :)

Hahahahaha I know, I really shouldn't laugh but really, it was funny. 8} Douglas challenged Deven or Vanessa awhile back to eat one (a jalepeno) for a dollar. So, the other night we got some nachos for an appetizer and they had jalepenos on them. Nina says, "Hey mom, if I eat 5 of these slices will ya give me a dollar?" I say okay. These are some of the faces she made. I just kept laughin till she threw up on the way out. We were outside at least.

Preschool Graduation

Last Thursday Breanna officially graduated from Preschool. The kids sang a few songs for us parents and got their diplomas. Breanna's favorite song was Slippery Fish. She did all the actions so well. It was really cute and fun. "Now when does Kindergarden start mom?" ,was her first question on the way home. :) Her teacher did such a good job and Breanna loved going! Thanks for making it such a great experience!

Mothers Day

Spirit Week

Monday was school colors! (Which are red and white) Vanessa has really gotten into it. So I thought you would all love to see how "out there" she is. :) She won most spirited yesterday in her class. Any of you remember that red and white cheer skirt? (She has shorts under it bytheway) She wore it in the St. Patrick's Day parade back in 2001.

Today is Wacky-Tacky day. She painted her shirt and nails all different colors. It's been kinda fun watching what she comes up with. Tonight Deven and Vanessa have their choir

concert. 60's theme; they are singing songs from Hairspray. It should be fun.

Check out Eyeglass Rescue for Kids . For $12 you receive membership in a database and an ID sleeve that slips over the earpiece stem of you kid's spec's. The finder calls the toll free number and they are given your name. The center takes their name and phone # and then contacts you so that you may contact finder and retrieve your glasses. Thought this sounded great. Guess they ( the finder) also receives a reward too. This wouldn't be bad for expensive sunglasses too.

What were you up to ten years ago? Douglas had finished his 5 yr. tour with the military. We were moving from Sierra Vista, AZ in with his family in Mesa, AZ, while we looked for a house. He went to work for APS. I was being mom to Vanessa and Deven. I decided to not continue with MaryKay after all. Life was a bit in the air at the time.

Five things on my to do list today. Ummm..Breanna to pre-school, make appointments, get card in the mail for BL, hour at the gym, register Breanna for kindergarden, get things for yard sale, and there is always the never ending pile of laundry. Just 5??? I'm not as good as you Keli, my hampers are not empty right now. :)

Five snacks I enjoy. Lets see....Trail Mix, granola bars w/ a cup of yogurt, oatmeal cookies, apples or celery w/ peanut butter, and any goodie on hand :)

What would you do if you became a Billionaire? hehehe Move :), pay off debt, help out family, invest, put money away for my kids college, Oh and buy more stamps, ink, paper and crafting tools :) , Get a personal trainer and chief, hire a maid, go to college myself, umm oh I would have to say I would buy myself and hubby a fun sports car, travel, and travel with family I'm sure there are more ways I would find to enjoy this windfall........

The girls loved checking out all the roses. They ran through them happily smelling them.

The kids all had testing this week. Aims or something I think. :) No homework is the only thing the kids like about it. I stayed busy and made a few cards. Friday was definitely the busiest. Up early to get the girls to the zoo. Got home about 5pm and sewed patches on Deven's scout uniform. (So, he was ready for his trip saturday morning @ 6:30am.) Then got everyone in the car to go to our ward dinner. By the time we got home about 9pm I was ready to drop. :) Not a boring day :D Hope you all had a great week and a happy weekend. Stay safe

Aleah the diva!! :) She's my fourth girl and she is the only one that is sooo into makeup. Evan as a baby she had to have makeup in her hand. She wants makeup (lipstick) every day even when I don't wear any. She asks for it every morning. Now she wants eye shadow too! Look out world she's only gettin older :}

Okay, Vanessa got after me for not posting about her change of hair color. It has been two weeks. :)

For those who are shocked At least she didn't what to pierce something or get a tattoo. :) hehehe

It does look nice and it's fun to shake things up once in a while.

Wow, what a whiz banger of a week. It has been so busy. No photos for this week unless ya want to see my cards in-which you will have to bounce over to ShyCreations. Didn't post but one I see. :) Others are Mothers Day cards and I'll post them after I mail them. Can't believe it's already Saturday. The kids had half days on thursday and friday, making the week seem short?? Weird anyway. :) Several appointments this week. One ending with Breanna back in the dentist chair on Thursday next for fillings. (Oh boy, this should be fun!!) I got to be diagnosed with plantar fascia-tis. So mom, here are the exercise recommended to help. For those who don't care Stop reading :) He said after 6 months (or was it weeks) I should be pain free. Yeah!! Have another appointment in six weeks. So we will see. :) Though I'm not sure this covers all my pain.

Wake up with a stretch.

Before you get out of bed in the morning, stretch your calf muscles, arch and Achilles tendon by reaching for your toes and gently flexing your foot. This helps reverse the tightening of the plantar fascia that occurs overnight.

Long Sitting Stretch

1) Sit on the floor with your legs stretched out in front of you

2) Loop a towel around the top of your affected foot

3) Pull the towel towards you until a stretch is felt across the bottom of your foot

4) Hold for 30 seconds then relax - repeat 10 times

Achilles Stretch 1) Stand facing a wall and place your hands straight out on the wall 2) Step back with your affected foot keeping it flat on the floor 3) Move the other leg forward and slowly lean in toward the wall 4) Stop when you feel a stretch through the calf 5) Hold for 30 seconds then relax - repeat 10 times

Stair Stretch 1) Stand on a step on the balls for your feet 2) Hold the rail for balance 3) Slowly lower the heel of the injured foot until a stretch is felt 4) Hold for 30 seconds then relax - repeat 10 times

This Crazy Week

This week was a busy one with Gammer and Papa visiting and everything else going on. :) We really enjoyed having them. Gammer did Nina's hair one morning and I thought it was cute. Had to share a photo. They went home today after we went to church. When we got home Breanna started crying when she saw their car was gone. We Love You Both!! Have a great next week.

Well, Douglas and I were sick with the stomach flu! Again!! Happy day. Kids were disappointed that we were such bums. We dyed eggs (in our PJ's) for deviled eggs and hunted for the plastic kind. :) Hope you were all much better than us. Love ya all

Nina has turned 8! Yeah!! She was out of school so she just bummed around the house during the day. We were getting ready for Gammer and Papa to show up..:) We had her favorite (hamburgers and hot dogs) for dinner. The rainbow cake she requested didn't turn out hehehe quite literally. :) Douglas ran her to the store and she picked out another. She loved her heelys! Could ya tell?? :)

Vanessa is having fun coming up with green food. So for breakfast we had green pancakes. Deven and Nina ate theirs too fast. Missed that photo opportunity.

The birthday boy! A whole 34 yrs. now. Well it's a bit late but they were fun photos of him so thought I'd share. I was sick so we didn't do much. The high lights were: dinner at OutBack, cake, and presents.

Well, it's been crazy!! Aleah was sick on Sunday and only got worse. Then I got it. Yuck!! It seems to be the flu that is going around (Stuffy head, aches, fever and a cough it is sooo much fun). We are both feeling better, though Aleah is doing better than me. We have been coped up (the girls and I) all week. Afraid to pass this on to someone else and Douglas had to take the truck in so he was driving the van. The truck blew a gasket or something. Thankfully it is still under warranty.

Last night Vanessa and Deven had a choir concert. Vanessa's group sang Phantom of the Opera and Deven's group sang Sound of Music. Both groups did very well.

Breanna's preschool Easter party was this morning at the park. Wow, was it windy. Blew cups and baskets clean off the table. They seemed to have a good time though. Aleah was stung by a bee but it didn't stop her from playing. She's one tough girl!

The kids all got out early to start their spring break out right. So there home driving me nuts :)
